Why Your Well Pump Should Be Covered | Pump Enclosures by Safe-T-Cover

Written by Cary Wiley | February 17, 2023

According to recent data compiled by the Environmental Protection Agency, over 23 million households in the United States rely on private wells for water access. That roughly breaks down to one of every eight households in America.

For many who live in less-populated or rural areas around the country where public water access isn’t feasible, a well pump is a critical piece of equipment for safe drinking water in homes or for irrigation and other functions. No matter where you live, if you have a well pump, it should be enclosed.

Two reasons you should enclose your well pump

Exposure to vandals and wildlife

Country living has its appeal: wide open spaces, fresh air, less hustle and bustle and fresh well water. That is, until someone sneaks up and strips the equipment for parts or metal (think copper theft during the Great Recession, or catalytic converters being cut from underneath vehicles a few years ago.) Or an animal finds its way into your well, not only requiring repair to your equipment, but decontamination at the source. There’s a reason poisoning the well is a common phrase!

Exposure to the elements

A primary reason why Texas succumbed to the Big Freeze in 2021 – and is facing a smaller-scale version of that in 2023 – was that unprotected pumps and wellheads froze, causing utility failures and crippling gas and water supplies to those in the state. We say the same thing about backflow prevention, and it holds just as true for well pumps almost anywhere in the country: they should be above ground and secured in an insulated enclosure.

Whether protecting against arctic conditions in the Upper Midwest with insulation and a slab-mounted heater, or against relentless summer heat and severe storms in the Sun Belt with exhaust fans and louvers, you can’t leave well pumps exposed to chance, because chance too easily becomes certainty in a moment’s notice.

Your water, yourself: Your well pump needs a Safe-T-Cover enclosure

Don’t leave your well pump exposed to harsh weather conditions or as an easy target for wildlife and vandals. City or country, regardless of context, Safe-T-Cover’s insulated, modular aluminum enclosures provide superior protection and peace of mind when it comes to private water access. Anything less is asking for trouble.
