One of the more common questions we get from prospective clients is whether or not they should buy a standard or custom enclosure. And in many cases, the response is, “It depends.”
We’re not trying to kick the can down the road or dodge the question, but there are plenty of factors that go into determining whether you need a custom enclosure. Let’s take a look at some of these factors and how our features make Safe-T-Cover your best solution for a custom enclosure.
Enclosure Size: The Sky’s the Limit (Sort Of)
No matter how large, we can handle the request. Modular enclosure design makes many things possible with custom dimensions. We’ve even built enclosures large enough to live in! (We don’t recommend that.)
Whether it’s for a water pump housing or a dedicated enclosed area within a facility, we create custom enclosures of all different shapes and sizes.
Location: Indoor or Outdoor Enclosure?
Many people think of aluminum and the first thing that comes to mind is a can. Safe-T-Cover enclosures are sturdier than your garden variety 12-pack. (Don’t try to crush an enclosure panel with your head!)
Made with marine-grade aluminum and braced with resilient California redwood, our enclosures are built solid. They are lab tested to meet ASSE 1060 Class 1 ratings and capable to withstand 130 MPH winds (an F-2 tornado) and snow loads up to 100 pounds per square foot.
Here are some of our enclosures being put to the test:
Indoors or out, a custom Safe-T-Cover enclosure is built to perform and protect.
It’s What’s Inside That Counts
From custom well pumps, glycol pumps, quench tanks, fire suppression systems, water meters, control panels and beyond, we’ve designed to-spec custom enclosures for numerous use cases for the waterworks and manufacturing sectors. If it needs a dedicated enclosure, there’s a reasonable chance we can develop a solution for it.

Open Sesame: Options for Access and Enclosure Security
Modular design provides its own advantages for access and servicing as opposed to permanent construction like a pump house or, worse yet, an in-ground vault.
Beyond panel-based construction, we provide optional hinged access panels and doors for entry into a large custom enclosure. Our patented MUNI-LOK vault key system ensures that only the right people have access to your critical equipment indoors or out.
Let It Breathe: Ventilation and Insulation
We mentioned the ASSE 1060 standard above; our enclosures are made to withstand winter’s worst and, when coupled with our slab-mounted heater, they can withstand some extreme Arctic conditions.
Winter isn’t the only consideration, though: we know excessive heat can also take its toll on equipment. Our panels can be equipped with fans or louvers to ensure that the environment within your custom enclosure is always ideal for operation and long life.
Shipping Is a Beast, Right?
After drawings and quotes are finalized, custom enclosures can be turned around in two to five weeks, shipped flat and with all the necessary hardware for installation. Depending on the size, most enclosures can be fully constructed and installed in one day.
